Kenosha East

Well we made it to Colorado yesterday, Sunday evening, staying in a wally world parking lot outside Denver. The plan was to head south towards Buena Vista stopping off at the Kenosha Pass to do a ride. We had scoped out the parking area via google earth and saw that it was big enough to park the whole rig in. No issues parking so off to find the trailhead. Most riders head to the west doing a long ride to near Breckenridge, but since this was our first ride at altitude, 10000 feet, we did the much shorter route, an out and back to the east going about 7 miles till the trail hits wilderness area, no bikes allowed then turning around. After a couple bonus dirt road miles, we found the actual trail head and had a great ride. The trail surface was about perfect, not dusty but no mud anywhere. As you can see from the pictures, plenty of beautiful scenery. We ran into a number of hikers, both dayhikers and true back packers. While we could certainly tell we were no longer in lowland PA, we both did fine with our initial foray into high altitude.

Stepping back, the trip across country was quite uneventful. The first night was spent off I-71 near mansfield OH, then a long day to Topeka KS where we saw a few fireworks. We really needed to get diesel for the truck at that exit before heading out but there were only a couple of "car" gas stations. I was a little leery of getting the whole rig in and out of it but howie had confidence and as usual he was correct. It was a little close but no paint was shed. Our only mechanical issue of the trip out was a crack in the front windshield, still not sure how it happened.

  1. The windshield probably would have not been cracked if you had a 29 instead of a baby wheeled bike.
